Sarvis Fork Covered Bridge | ||
The total number of covered bridges built in West Virginia is unknown. In 1981, the seventeen remaining covered bridges were listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Two of the seventeen bridges are located in Jackson County. The Sarvis Fork Covered Bridge was built in 1889 at a cost of $1050.00. This bridge was originally built in Angerona, at Carnahan's Ford. The bridge was disassembled on September 10, 1924 and re-erected at its present site on the Left Fork of Sandy Creek. The bridge is also known as the New Era Covered Bridge, the Odaville Covered Bridge and the Sandyville Covered Bridge. It is located north of Sandyville at the intersection of Route 21 and Sarvis Fork Road. It is visible from Route 21. The bridge was completely rebuilt in 2000. Owned by the State of West Virginia, it is open to motor traffic. |
